Kids of Immigrants (KOI) is a brand and movement created by Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis, first-generation Americans whose roots stem from Honduras and Liberia. The brand was created as a medium to represent and empower their communities. Inspired by their origins, environment, and life experiences, KOI is a statement that celebrates our differences, evolving into a catalyst for global unity.
The KOI Story
Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis were born in the United States to immigrant parents. Buezo’s parents are from Honduras, while Dennis’ parents are from Liberia. Both men grew up in working-class neighborhoods and faced discrimination because of their immigrant backgrounds.
Despite the challenges they faced, Buezo and Dennis were determined to succeed. They both went on to college and earned degrees in business. After college, they decided to start their own business together.
In 2016, Buezo and Dennis founded Kids of Immigrants. The brand was created as a way to represent and empower the immigrant community. KOI’s products feature designs that celebrate immigrant culture and heritage.
KOI has quickly become a popular brand among immigrants and their allies. The brand has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. KOI has also been praised by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Malala Yousaf
The KOI x Nike Collaboration
In 2023, KOI collaborated with Nike to create a special collection of sneakers and apparel. The collection was inspired by the immigrant experience and featured designs that celebrated diversity and inclusion.
The KOI x Nike collaboration was a huge success. The collection sold out quickly and was praised by critics and consumers alike. The collaboration was a major milestone for KOI and helped to solidify the brand’s reputation as a leader in the fashion industry
A very inspiring collaboration, i’m sure we will be seeing more of Kids of Immigrants this year.
